Peter Stuart Memorial 2022

Peter Stuart Memorial 2022 (formerly North Shore Open) comprise two separate chess tournaments held over the Matariki long weekend from 24th to 26th June 2022. The two chess tournaments held as part of Peter Stuart Memorial 2022 would be played as Swiss system tournaments of six rounds. Games have a single time control of 90 minutes per player for the game with 30 seconds increment per move.

$55 $65 Open (including $10 late entry surcharge)

$45 $55 Reserve (including $10 late entry surcharge)

Free for GMs and IMs.

Late entries (received after 18th June) incur a $10 surcharge and may be accepted up until Wednesday 22nd June. No entries on the day of the event. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entries.

COVID-19 Policy

Masks are compulsory in the tournament venue. Players who remove their mask while inside the venue will not be paired in subsequent rounds. The FIDE requirement to shake hands will not be enforced. No analysis room or kitchen will be available. Food and drink should be consumed outside.

Eligibility

Open to all players.

Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.

NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.

Format

Two 6 round Swiss tournaments, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.

  1. Open restricted to players FIDE rated 1800 or higher (players rated below 1800, particularly juniors, may be accepted, on application).
  2. Reserve restricted to players rated under 2000.

Time Controls

90 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.

Half-point Byes

A player may take a half-point bye in any one of the first five rounds. Notice should be given before the start of the tournament and may be given on the entry form.

The prize fund of $2,930 has been boosted by a generous anonymous donation of $700.

Upset prizes will be distributed each round (total $240). Players may win Upset and 100% prizes in addition to one major prize. There may also be book prizes.
