Auckland Blitz Rapid July 2024 is part of a series of 5 chess events that each consists of a Blitz chess tournament of 9 rounds and a Rapid chess tournament of 9 rounds that are played over 2 days on a weekend.
Auckland Chess Centre (ACC) is having a series of Blitz and Rapid chess tournaments to be run throughout 2024, the Auckland Blitz Rapid (ABR). These tournaments have the purpose of providing opportunities to play many Blitz and Rapid time control chess games that are FIDE rated.
The main features are:
- ABR events take only two days, just a normal weekend, and you can leave long weekends for bigger plans such as traveling.
- ABR events have 9 rounds of Blitz and 9 rounds of Rapid games that are FIDE rated.
- Unrated players in ABR events will not have to play each other, which provides an opportunity for more players to get FIDE-rated quicker.

The ABR provides plenty of opportunities to play many Blitz and Rapid chess games that are FIDE rated in 2024.
If you prefer slower classical time control chess, ACC is also organising a series of classical chess events that are FIDE rated too. Check out the Auckland Chess Weekend (ACW) series.
In months when ACW is not held there are the, Auckland Anniversary Weekender in January, Auckland Waitangi Weekender in February, Auckland ANZAC Weekender in April, Merv Morrison Memorial in October.

Entry Details
Entry Restrictions
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.
Participation is restricted to ACC members and invited players only.
Only first 50 player entries per ABR tournament accepted due to space constraints.
Entry Instructions
No entries accepted after 9am Saturday of tournament or when full.
All entries must be made online through TryBooking (link also available on each ABR tournament’s webpage). Multiple players may be entered in the same booking, simply select number of players (tickets).
New Zealand chess players who participate in more than one NZCF rated event in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $15.

Auckland Blitz Rapid 2024 are a series of 5 chess events that each consists of a Blitz chess tournament of 9 rounds and a Rapid chess tournament of 9 rounds that are played over 2 days on a weekend.
Players who do not have FIDE Blitz ratings in the Blitz tournament would not be paired with each other where possible. Similarly, who do not have FIDE Rapid ratings in the Rapid tournament would not be paired with each other where possible. This is to make it easier for players who are unrated to earn their initial ratings.
Main purpose of the Auckland Blitz Rapid is to provide chess players more opportunities to play Blitz and Rapid time control games over the board.

Eligibility

Format
Auckland Blitz Rapid 2024 consists of 5 separate chess events that are combined Blitz and Rapid swiss tournaments.
Each ABR event consists of:
- 18 rounds combined Swiss tournaments played as 2 tournaments.
- 9 rounds Blitz & 9 rounds Rapid. FIDE and NZCF rated where possible.
Players who do not have FIDE Blitz or FIDE Rapid ratings would not be paired with each other in the respective time control tournament where possible. This is to make it easier for unrated players to earn their initial ratings.
Time Controls
Blitz, 3 minutes each player plus 2 seconds increment per move from move one.
Rapid, 25 minutes each player plus 5 seconds increment per move from move one.

Prize Fund
In order to keep participation costs to a minimum, there is no prize money. You are playing because you want to play lots of Blitz and Rapid chess.
Main purpose of the Auckland Blitz Rapid is to provide chess players more opportunities to play chess games. Players who play in each edition of ABR would play up to 9 games of Blitz and up to 9 games of Rapid, for a total of up to 18 chess games in a weekend.
