Due to detection of community transmission of COVID-19, Auckland moves to Level 3 and rest of New Zealand moves to Level 2 starting 12pm Wednesday 12th August 2020.
Alphaeus had created a remarkable record in New Zealand chess history by having an unbroken perfect winning score streak through all 11 years of participation in West Auckland Interschools playing as board 1 for his school’s best chess team through the Primary (St. Paul’s Primary School), Intermediate (Liston College) and Secondary (Liston College) divisions.
Former New Zealand Champions, FM Martin Dreyer and FM Ewen Green, had a match of 6 games of Blitz chess at Poppies Bookshop in Howick, Auckland. After the match, FM Ewen Green took on his students blindfolded. An event in the lead up to International Chess Day, 20th July 2020.
NZL New Zealand team selected for FIDE Online Olympiad 2020 starting 22nd July.
FIDE Online Olympiad 2020 is a national teams event in which all federations affiliated to FIDE have the right to participate. Each team consists of six players, in a mixed format with a minimum quota of three female players and two junior players.
