NZ Senior Championship 2026 is an official New Zealand Chess Federation 6 round chess tournament held from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th July 2026 at Carbine Room, Waipuna Hotel & Conference Centre Mount Wellington, Auckland.

Entry Fees
$60 per player.
Entry Instructions
No entries accepted after Wednesday 15th July 2026.
Account for payment: Howick-Pakuranga Chess Club 02-0168-0091321-03 (state name & “NZ Seniors”).
Use online entry form to enter.
New Zealand chess players who participate in any NZCF rated event must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $20 per year.

Travel Arrangements
Eligibility
Players must be over the age of 49 on 1st January 2026 (born before the year 1977).
Players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
Format
6 round Swiss tournament, games may be FIDE rated.
Time Controls
90 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.

Half Point Byes
Up to two half point byes are available in any of the first four rounds. Notice should be given before the start of the tournament and can be given upon entering.

The highest placed New Zealand player shall the be the New Zealand Seniors Chess Champion.
The highest placed player over the age of 64 on 1st January 2026 (born before the year 1962) shall be the New Zealand Veterans Chess Champion.
A new Legend prize will be awarded to the highest placed player over the age of 80 on 1st January 2026.
PLEASE NOTE:
- No player may claim more than one prize.
- Prizes and titles will be shared equally in the event of a tie.
