Auckland Blitz Rapid 2024

Auckland Blitz Rapid 2024 are a series of 5 chess events that each consists of a Blitz chess tournament of 9 rounds and a Rapid chess tournament of 9 rounds that are played over 2 days on a weekend.

Auckland Chess Centre (ACC) is having a series of Blitz and Rapid chess tournaments to be run throughout 2024, the Auckland Blitz Rapid (ABR). These tournaments have the purpose of providing opportunities to play many Blitz and Rapid time control chess games that are FIDE rated.

The main features are:

  • ABR events take only two days, just a normal weekend, and you can leave long weekends for bigger plans such as traveling.
  • ABR events have 9 rounds of Blitz and 9 rounds of Rapid games that are FIDE rated.
  • Unrated players in ABR events will not have to play each other, which provides an opportunity for more players to get FIDE-rated quicker.

The ABR provides plenty of opportunities to play many Blitz and Rapid chess games that are FIDE rated in 2024.

If you prefer slower classical time control chess, ACC is also organising a series of classical chess events that are FIDE rated too. Check out the Auckland Chess Weekend (ACW) series.

In months when ACW is not held there are the, Auckland Anniversary Weekender in January, Auckland Waitangi Weekender in February, Auckland ANZAC Weekender in April, Merv Morrison Memorial in October.
