Peter Stuart Memorial 2026
Peter Stuart Memorial 2026 (formerly North Shore Open) is held over the Matariki long weekend from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th July 2026 at The Spencer Hotel, Takapuna. Peter Stuart Memorial 2026 consists of two Swiss system chess tournaments of six rounds each. Games have a single time control of 90 minutes per player for the game with 30 seconds increment per move.

Please contact us if name is not listed more than a day after submission.
New Zealand chess players who participate in any NZCF rated event must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $20 per year.

9-17 Byron Avenue, Takapuna.
Most of the car parking in the area is free at weekends and on public holidays.
Treating the Venue With Respect
In addition to the ballroom, we have access to the large seating area on the same floor, where there will be boards for analysis.

Restaurant, The Spencer Hotel, Takapuna.
Nobody is allowed on other floors. Food and drink (with the exception of water bottles) may not be brought into the hotel. Strictly no running around!
Offenders will be removed from the pairings and may be banned from future events.
Travel Arrangements
Eligibility
Open to all players.
Players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
Format
Two separate 6 round Swiss tournaments, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.
- Open (A-grade) restricted to players FIDE rated 1600 or higher. Players rated below 1600 (particularly juniors) may be accepted, on application.
- Reserve restricted to players FIDE rated under 1700.
Time Controls
90 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.

The prizegiving will take place as soon as possible after the conclusion of the last round.
Half Point Byes
A player may take a half-point bye in any one of the first five rounds. Notice should be given before the start of the tournament and may be given on the entry form.
Prize Fund

Upset prizes will be distributed each round.
Players may win Upset and 100% prizes in addition to one major prize. Grade prize structure will be determined after the start. There may also be book prizes.
PLEASE NOTE:
- No player may claim more than one major prize.
- In the event of a tie, prize money will be shared.
Players eligible for Placing, or Grade Prize, would receive the highest monetary value prize.
