Howick’s main street, surrounded by cafes, bars and restaurants is where the venue of NZ Senior Championship 2021, the Howick Information Centre is located.

NZ Open Seniors Online Championships, Online
November 26th-28th 2021 (was September 17th-19th) – for players born before 1972.
 
This tournament is now going to be played online, on Lichess, with no prize money and a reduced entry fee of $25. The tournament will be played in a spirit of friendship with no need for the normal rules surrounding cameras etc. Rating will be Lichess only and optional.
 
Certificates will be awarded to the main place getters in both divisions and it has also been decided to make it an “Open” event so that players from other Asia-Pacific countries can enter. It will be called the NZ Open Seniors Online Championships. Players that have already entered the OTB tournament and want to play in the online event will be refunded the difference.

Eligibility

Open to players born before 1st January 1972. (49 years old or above in 2020)

Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.

NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.

Format

6 round Swiss tournament, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.

Time Controls

90 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.

Byes

Players may elect to take up to 2 byes in any of the first 4 rounds but must notify the arbiter before the beginning of the previous round.
