North Island Championship 2021
North Island Championship 2021 is an 8 round chess tournament held from 2nd to 5th April 2021 at the Naumi Studio Hotel, 213 Cuba Street, Wellington. The tournament is played as one Swiss system with a single time control of 90 minutes per player plus 30 seconds increment per move for all moves. A special accomodation deal at the venue’s hotel is available.

Entry Fees
Standard: $80
Junior: $60 (if under 20 years before 1st January 2021)
Players whose 2020 Wellington Open entry fees were refunded are entitled to a 50% discount.
Entry Instructions
Pay the entry fee to the club’s bank account number 06 0582 0096726 00 Put your name under ‘particulars’ and “North Island” under ‘reference’.

New Zealand Chess Federation only permits tournaments to go ahead at COVID-19 Alert Level 1 or lower.

Accommodation
We recommend staying on site at the Naumi Studio Hotel. This Four Star Hotel has been recently refurbished and is offering an excellent $130 per night room only deal. Parking
Central City parking can be expensive. Fortunately “Coupon Parking” is available in the city fringe within a few hundred metres of the hotel. Coupon Parking is free on weekends and on public holidays, which fortunately covers the whole tournament. Nearby streets with coupon parking include Hopper Street, Torrens Terrace and Thompson Street. Aro Street, Palmer Street and Buller Street are a bit further away. Please be aware that there is always plenty of competition from locals for this parking, probably even on a long weekend. Allow plenty of time and be prepared for something of a hike. The hotel advise that subject to availability, there is limited on-site parking available for $15 per day.
Eligibility
Open to all players.
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.
Format
8 round Swiss tournament, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.
Time Controls
90 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.
