Howick Junior Masters 2022
Howick Junior Masters 2022 comprise three eight-player round-robin chess tournaments of 7 rounds each (4 rounds Saturday, 3 on Sunday) for players in rating bands. Group 1: “Bishops” for under 1200; Group 2: “Rooks” for 1201-1500; Group 3: “Kings” for 1501-1800 rating. These will be played at the Howick Chess Centre with 30 minutes per player plus 30 seconds increment per move and will give players chances to earn or improve FIDE and NZCF ratings.

New Zealand chess players who participate in 2 or more NZCF rated events in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $10.

Eligibility
Open to players rated under 1800.
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.
Only first 24 fully paid player entries accepted due to space constraints.
Format
Up to three round robin tournaments of 8 players each, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.
Bishops: Players rated under 1200
Rooks: Players rated from 1200 to 1499
Kings: Players rated from 1500 to 1799
If there are more players than 8 entering a particular group then the Organiser reserves the right to move the players to a different group to ensure a minimum of 8 players in each division. Players are given places on a “first in, first served” basis.
Time Control
30 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.
Note that because players are under 1800 it is possible to standard FIDE rate these tournaments with this time control.
