Auckland Double Weekends March 2025
Auckland Chess Centre Double Weekends March 2025 is part of a series of 5 over-the-board (OTB) chess tournaments with 8 rounds played over 4 days on two weekends.
Auckland Chess Centre (ACC) is having a series of OTB tournaments to be run throughout 2025, the Auckland Double Weekends (ADW). These tournaments will fill the gaps between months with long weekends when ACC’s big open tournaments are traditionally run. The main differences are:
- ADW events take four days over two normal weekends.
- ADW events are played using time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment that meets all FIDE requirements.
- Unrated players in ADW events will not have to play each other, which provides an opportunity for more players to get FIDE-rated quicker.
In 2025, ADW would be run on the following dates:
- 8th, 9th, 23rd, 24th March 2025
- 10th, 11th, 17th, 18th May 2024
- 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th July 2024
- 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th August 2024
- 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th September 2024
Players in each month’s ADW can play up to 8 classical games. Those who play in all 5 ADWs in 2025 may have up to 40 classical games at ACC this year. Welcome to play classical chess with us!

Entry Details
Entry Restrictions
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.
Participation is restricted to ACC members and invited players only.
Only first 50 player entries per ADW tournament accepted due to space constraints.
Entry Instructions
No entries accepted after 9am Saturday 25th March 2025 or when full.
Entries are to be made online through TryBooking (available from[date month] 2024) or through using the form below. Multiple players may be entered in the same booking, simply select number of players (tickets).
Name of player entered would be listed in Vega Results. Link also available in Results section of this webpage.
Please contact us if name is not listed more than a day after submission.
New Zealand chess players who participate in more than one NZCF rated event in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $15.

Auckland Double Weekends March 2025 is part of a series of 5 separate chess tournaments of 8 rounds each. Each tournament is played at a pace of 2 rounds per day on Saturday and Sunday over two weeks.
Players who do not have FIDE standard (classical) ratings would not be paired with each other where possible. This is to make it easier for unrated players to earn their initial ratings.
Auckland Double Weekends provide chess players more opportunities to play standard time control games over the board. Players who play in every tournament in ADW 2025 series would play up to 40 OTB chess games.

Prize Fund
In order to keep participation costs to a minimum, there is no prize money. You are playing because you want to play OTB chess.
Main purpose of the Auckland Chess Weekends is to provide chess players more opportunities to play OTB chess games. Players who play in every tournament in ACW 2025 series would play up to 40 OTB chess games.
