Wellington Open 2025 is a 6 round chess tournament held on Easter weekend, Friday 18th, Saturday 19th, and Monday 21st April 2025 at the Wellington Bridge Club, Thorndon. Chess tournament is played as a single 6 round Swiss with Open, B and C grade prizes.

Entry Fees
$80 per player.
$55 per Junior (born in 2005 or later) player.
Entry Instructions
Entries close on Wednesday 16th April 2025 or earlier when venue capacity is full.
Pay online to Wellington Chess Club bank account 06 0582 0096726 00 (Put your name under ‘particulars’ and ‘Easter’ under ‘reference’).

New Zealand chess players who participate in more than one NZCF rated event in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $15.

Dates
Easter weekend, Friday 18th, Saturday 19th, and Monday 21st April 2025.
Note that there are no games being played on Easter Sunday 20th April 2025.
Venue

17 Tinakori Road, Thorndon, Wellington.
There is some parking available on site. However street parking is neither free nor plentiful like in the outer suburbs. Participants are advised to come early or use public transport.
Travel Arrangements
Eligibility
Open to all players.
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.
Format
6 round Swiss tournament, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.
Time Controls
90 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.

Prize Fund
Minimum prize fund $1500, may be increased according to entries received.
1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in Open, B and C grades. Prizes will be finlalised and posted during the tournament.
PLEASE NOTE:
- No player may claim more than one prize.
- In the event of a tie, prize money will be shared.
Players eligible for more than one prize would receive the highest monetary value prize.
