North Island Championship 2022
North Island Championship 2022 is a 9 round chess tournament held from 15th to 17th July 2022 at the Auckland Chess Centre, 17 Cromwell Street, Mount Eden, Auckland. The tournament is played at a pace of 3 rounds per day over 3 days with a single time control of 60 minutes per player plus 30 seconds increment per move for all moves.

COVID-19 Policy
COVID-19 Protection Framework (Traffic Lights) for Auckland must be at Orange or Green for this event to proceed.
Auckland Chess Centre COVID-19 policies (effective 21st April 2022):
With the exception of tenants who reside in Auckland Chess Centre, the following COVID-19 policies would apply to everyone entering the property:
- Operating only in NZ Covid Protection Framework (Traffic Lights) Orange or Green. Closed in Red.
- Masks that cover the nose and mouth must be worn by everyone at all times when indoors within the property of Auckland Chess Centre.
These COVID-19 policies are to meet or exceed NZ government recommendations in order to keep everybody at Auckland Chess Centre as safe as reasonably possible.
Additionally, current New Zealand government COVID-19 regulations or policies will also apply.
It is possible that any tournament may be cancelled or otherwise affected by other disruptions. Please understand the difficulties in staging events during the pandemic.
Entry Details
Entry Fees
$60 per player.
Maximum refund is $50 (due to costs already incurred) for any and all reasons.
Entry Instructions
No entries accepted after 9am 15th July 2022 or when full.
Only first 50 fully paid player entries accepted due to space constraints.
All entries and payments must be made online with TryBooking or through using the form below. Multiple players may be entered in the same booking, simply select number of players (tickets).

North Island Blitz 2022
Up to a day after players have entered North Island Championship 2022 they have priority for available spaces in North Island Blitz 2022 that is FREE of charge.
New Zealand chess players who participate in 2 or more NZCF rated events in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $10.

Eligibility
Open to all players.
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.
Only first 50 fully paid player entries accepted due to space constraints.
Format
9 round Swiss tournament, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.
Players will be seeded according to the following priority of ratings that are in force at the start of the tournament:
- FIDE standard.
- NZCF Standard.
- NZCF Rapid.
- Surname alphabetical order.
Half Point Bye
An optional half point bye is available to players who may need it in one of rounds 1 to 4.
Half point bye must be requested before the end of the previous round it is wanted. Round 1 half point bye can be requested by replying to the entry confirmation email.
This half point bye is made available to provide flexibility for players who may for example, need to attend the Poppies Chess Challenge in Howick during round 4.

No prize giving ceremony would be held. Players may leave after their last game is completed.
Prizes would be paid to prize winners bank account online after the event.
Prize Fund
Two thirds of entry fees would be paid out as prizes. Prize distribution to be determined on the first day of the tournament.

- No player may claim more than one prize.
- In the event of a tie, prize money will be shared.
Highest scoring North Island player(s) will be North Island Champion(s) 2022.
