New Zealand chess players who participate in 2 or more NZCF rated events in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $10.

Eligibility
Upper Hutt Open 2021 is open to all chess players.
- Senior Grade for all players.
- Junior Grade for players aged under 13 years beafore 1st January 2022 and unrated or rated below 1200.
Players can enter a grade higher than their rating classification, but the organisers reserve the right to move a player to a different grade if they feel he/she has entered an inappropriate grade.
Format
6 round Swiss tournament,
Senior Grade only NZCF rated where possible.
Junior Grade is unrated.
Time Controls
Senior Grade, 25 minutes each player plus 5 seconds increment per move from move one.
Junior Grade, 25 minutes each player without increment.
