North Island Championship 2025 is an 8 round chess tournament held from Friday 4th to Monday 7th July 2025 at the Vogeltown Bowling Club rooms, 26 Norman Street, Lower Vogeltown, New Plymouth. The tournament is played at a pace of 2 rounds per day over 4 days with a single time control of 90 minutes per player plus 30 seconds increment per move for all moves.

Entry Fees
$100 Adults.
$80 Juniors (born 2005 or later).
Entry Instructions
No entries accepted after 2nd July 2025 or when full.
Venue capacity is 60 players.
Club account for payment (New Plymouth Chess Club):15-3942-0001596-00 (state “NICC” for Particulars and give last name and initials as Reference).
Use online entry form to enter.
New Zealand chess players who participate in more than one NZCF rated event in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $15.

Eligibility
Open to all players.
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.
Venue capacity is 60 players.
Format
8 round Swiss tournament, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.
Time Controls
90 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.

Players not present at the players meeting will not be paired in the first round unless the chief arbiter decides otherwise.
Prize giving will take place as soon as possible after completion of the final round.

The North Island champion will be the highest-placed New Zealand player who is a member of a North Island club or lives in the North Island if not a member of any club.
The organiser reserves the right to alter grade boundaries if the numbers entered in any rating group would otherwise result in an unfair distribution of prize money.
PLEASE NOTE:
- No player may claim more than one cash prize.
- In the event of a tie, prize money will be shared.
