North Island Championship 2024
North Island Championship 2024 is an 8 round chess tournament held from 29th March to 1st April 2024 at the Alan Gibbs Centre, Wellington College, 15 Dufferin Street, Mount Victoria, Wellington. The tournament is played at a pace of 2 rounds per day over 4 days with a single time control of 90 minutes per player plus 30 seconds increment per move for all moves.

Entry Fees
$100 per player.
$70 for Juniors, born after 2003.
Entry Instructions
Pay your entry fee ($100 or $70 for juniors) to the Wellington Chess Club’s bank account number 06 0582 0096726 00. Put your name under ‘Particulars’ and ‘North Island’ under ‘Reference’.

- Please also check the player lists on the Wellington Chess Club’s website Vega Webpage to confirm you have been correctly entered.
New Zealand chess players who participate in more than one NZCF rated event in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $15.

Travel Arrangements
Eligibility
Open to all players.
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.
NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.
Format
8 round Swiss tournament, NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.
FIDE ratings will be used when possible for pairings and rating prizes.
Time Controls
90 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.

- Highest-placed NZ player who is a North Island resident (or residents in the case of a tie) will be the 2024 North Island Champion(s).
- A player may only win one monetary prize.
Half Point Bye
One half point bye is available in the first six rounds only, it must be requested at least two days in advance.
