All over the board chess activity for the whole of New Zealand can resume since it would be Alert Level 1.

At 12am 18th February 2021 Auckland would move down to Alert Level 2 and the rest of New Zealand would move down to Alert Level 1. Refer to covid19.govt.nz website for more details.
All over the board chess activity in Auckland cannot resume until it is Alert Level 1. For the rest of New Zealand, over the board chess activity can resume since it would be at Alert Level 1.

COVID-19: February 2021 Alert. Due to community cases being detected New Zealand COVID-19 alert levels are being raised. Auckland would be at Alert Level 3 and rest of New Zealand at Alert Level 2 from Monday 15th to Wednesday 17th February. This may change as the situation is reviewed daily. Over the board chess has high risk of COVID-19 infection. All chess games played over the board effectively require close contact where people are within a meter of each other for longer than 15 minutes with repeated touching of chess equipment surfaces.
All over the board chess activity in New Zealand must cease until it is Alert Level 1 or below. Meaning all chess activity in tournaments and chess clubs at all venues will cease. Only over the board chess games able to be played would be between members of the same household “bubble”. Other than that only online chess activity can continue.
