New Zealand chess players who participate in more than one NZCF rated event in a year must be a member of a chess club that is affiliated or associated with NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation). The Mount Maunganui RSA Chess Club offers memberships that fulfill this requirement from just $15.

Travel Arrangements

Eligibility

Open to all players.

Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.

NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.

38th Papatoetoe Rapid Open:

  • Open for players rated 1800 and above.
  • B Grade for players rated under 1800.

 

The Organiser reserves the right to move players to a different tournament if they feel an inappropriate one has been entered.

9th Papatoetoe Junior Rapid:

  • Players must be under the age of 20 years before 1st January 2024.

Format

38th Papatoetoe Rapid Open, two separate 6 round swiss system tournaments.

9th Papatoetoe Junior Rapid, a six round swiss system tournament.

All tournaments FIDE and NZCF rated where possible.

Time Controls

All tournaments, Rapid: 25 minutes per player plus 5 seconds increment per move from move one.

If tied, trophies and medals are subject to tiebreaks. Each player can only win one trophy/medal.

Winners names are engraved on Junior Championship Trophy and Best Girl Trophy. Winners take home engraved miniature cups.

Please Note:

  • No player may claim more than one monetary prize.
  • Tie-breaks only apply to trophies and medals. Monetary prizes are combined and shared if tied.
  • In the event of joint overall champions, all names are engraved on championship trophy.
  • Age group medals awarded in bands, e.g. a player eligible for under 14 cannot win under 16 prize.
