20th Bay of Plenty Open Invitational 2021 held on Saturday 16th January had a good turnout of 22 players. All players were divided into 5 groups. These groups made up 5 tournaments, 4 round robins and 1 swiss, of 3 rounds.

Bay of Plenty Open Inviational keeps increasing in popularity with increased participation from strong players. Hardly surprising as this is a very accessible chess event that is affordable, offers good prize money to entry fee ratio with many prizes. All done without external financial support! A good time with quality chess games was had by all.

Tauranga RSA, 1237 Cameron Road, Greerton, Tauranga.

Eligibility

Open to all players.

Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.

NZL players without FIDE ID must provide full Date of Birth.

Format

One day event of Three rounds.

Players will be placed in groups of four or six players.

Each group is a separate individual tournament where four player groups would be paired as a single round robin while six player groups would be paired as a swiss.

All event groups NZCF standard rated where possible.

Time Controls

50 minutes each player plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.

Schedule

8.50am players meeting on Saturday 16th January 2021.

Two rounds would be played then a lunch break before final round.

Prize Fund

Each group, 1st place $50, 2nd place $30.
